Welcome & Telling Our Story

GATHERING

Introit

Call to Worship

Ask the animals and they will teach you.
Ask the birds and they will tell you.
God’s wisdom is written throughout creation.
The winds, the waters, the forests, and the fields
sing of God’s presence.
We come to listen, to learn, and to worship.
Come, let us join creation’s song.
Let us worship God with wonder and gratitude. Amen.

Hymn:                                                River                                                                           MV 3

  1. River, rush-a-down to the ocean blue,
    River from a mountain high.
    River, as you do what rivers do,
    River, draw the Spirit nigh.
  1. Spirit, come-a-down to the riverside,
    Spirit, spark of wondrous thought.
    Spirit, I am free for you to guide,
    Spirit, pray that I be taught!
  1. Water, let me drink of your healing pow’r,
    Water, strength and life you give.
    Water, as I travel with each hour,
    Water, help my body live.
  1. River, flow-a-down where you ran before,
    River, source of clearer view.
    River, as I walk your rocky shore,
    River, see my journey through.

See my journey through. (3x)

Gathering Prayer & Assurance of Grace
Creator God, you speak through rushing rivers and whispering winds, through towering pines, tiny sparrows, and through every creature that shares this world with us. You invite us to learn from the earth, to listen to the wisdom woven through all creation, and to remember that we are not owners of this world, but stewards of your Creation.

Yet too often we forget. We rush past beauty without noticing. We take more than we need. We place our desires above the needs of others, and our convenience above the well-being of your creation.

Forgive us when we fail to listen to the cries of the earth, to the voices of those who are marginalized, and to your Spirit moving among us. Open our hearts once more. Teach us to see with wonder, to act with compassion, and to walk gently upon this earth.

Friends, may you hear this good news: The God who created us also renews us. God’s mercy is deeper than the rivers, broader than the skies, and stronger than our failures. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Time for the Young & Young at Heart

Hymn:                         Eternal Light, Shine in My Heart                                       VU 629

  1. Eternal light, shine in my heart;
    eternal hope, lift up my eyes;
    eternal power, be my support;
    eternal wisdom, make me wise.
  1. Eternal life, raise me from death;
    eternal brightness, make me see;
    eternal Spirit, give me breath;
    eternal Saviour, come to me,
  1. until by your most costly grace,
    invited by your holy word,
    at last I come before your face
    to know you, my eternal God.

WORD

Prayer for Illumination
God, you have declared that your kingdom is among us. Open our eyes to see it, our ears to hear it, our hearts to hold it and our hands to serve it. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

RESPONSE

Thanksgiving & Offering
In the book of Job we hear that the animals, the birds, the earth itself, all bear witness to God’s wisdom and generosity. Everything we have comes from God’s hand: the soil that nourishes crops, the waters that sustain life, the gifts and talents entrusted to us.  As an act of gratitude and stewardship, we offer the gifts of our hands and hearts so that they may be used for the glory of God. Let us present our offering as we sing For the Gift of Creation.

Offertory Song:                                For the Gift of Creation                               VU 538

For the gift of creation, the gift of your love,
and the gift of the Spirit by which we live,
we thank you and give you the fruit of our hands.
May your grace be proclaimed by the gifts that we give.

Offertory Prayer
O God of all bounty, from your hand we have freely received. Accept these offerings of your people as expressions of our thanks. Lovingly remember those who have given, enrich the lives of those for whom these gifts are intended, and use these gifts to promote goodwill and to bring your kingdom, for the sake of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Hymn:                         Love Knocks and Waits                                           MV 94

  1. Love knocks and waits for us to hear,
    to open and invite;
    Love longs to quiet every fear,
    and seeks to set things right.
  1. Love offers life, in spite of foes
    who threaten and condemn;
    embracing enemies, Love goes
    the second mile with them.
  1. Love comes to heal the broken heart,
    to ease the troubled mind;
    without a word Love bids us start
    to ask and seek and find.
  1. Love knocks and entered at the sound
    of welcome from within;
    Love sings and dances all around
    and feels new life begin.

Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer
Creator God, you are present in every corner of creation.  In the forests and fields surrounding our community, in the waters of the Ottawa River, in the song of birds and the changing seasons. Today we give thanks for the beauty that surrounds us and for the countless ways creation reveals your wisdom and love.

We pray for the earth itself. Where land has been damaged, bring restoration. Where waters are polluted, bring renewal. Where species are threatened, inspire us to be faithful stewards of all that you have made. We pray for communities facing wildfires, droughts, storms, and environmental uncertainty. Grant courage to those responding to crises and wisdom to those making decisions for the future.

We pray for our neighbours here in Renfrew and throughout the Ottawa Valley. Bless farmers and gardeners, workers and volunteers, families and seniors. Strengthen all who are carrying burdens that others cannot see. We pray for those who are ill, grieving, lonely, or afraid. May they know your comforting presence and the care of those around them. We pray for your Church, that we might learn again to listen to your voice, to one another, and to the wisdom of creation itself. All these prayers, spoken and unspoken, we offer in the name of Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray together saying:
Our Father…

Hymn:                        Will Your Anchor Hold                                                        VU 675

  1. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life?
    When the clouds unfold their wings of strife,
    when the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
    will your anchor drift or firm remain?

Refrain:         We have an anchor that keeps the soul
                                    steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
                                    fastened to the rock which cannot move,
                                    ground firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

2.It will surely the straits of fear,
when the breakers tell that the reef is near;
though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
not an angry wave shall our bark o’erflow.        Refrain

  1.  It will surely hold in the floods of death,
    when the waters cold chill our latest breath;
    on the rising tide it can never fail
    while our hopes abide within the veil.                Refrain
  1. When our eyes behold, through the gathering night,
    the city of gold, our harbour bright,
    we shall anchor fast by the heavenly shore,
    with the storms all past for evermore.                Refrain

Sending Forth

Go now into God’s world with eyes open to wonder. Learn from the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth. Listen for God’s wisdom in the wind and the trees. Walk gently upon the earth and faithfully among your neighbours. And may the Creator who made you, the Christ who redeems you, and the Spirit who breathes life into all creation, go with you today and always. Amen.

Sung Blessing:  Make Me a Channel of Your Peace                  VU 684,  sung twice
Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your healing power,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
