Welcome & Telling Our Story

GATHERING

Introit

Call to Worship
God calls us to a journey of faith and purpose.
We come ready to follow where Christ leads.
When the path is long and the race is challenging:
God gives us strength to go the distance.
Come, let us worship God.
With joy and gratitude let us worship God. Amen.

Hymn:                        Let All Things Now Living                                              VU 242

  1. Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving,
    to God our Creator triumphantly raise;
    who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
    by guiding us on to the end of our days.
    God’s banners are o’er us, pure light goes before us,
    a pillar of fire shining forth in the night;
    till shadows have vanished and darkness is banished,
    as forward we travel from light into Light.
  1. By law God enforces, the stars in their courses
    and sun in its orbit obediently shine;
    the hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
    the depths of the ocean proclaim God divine.
    We, too, should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
    with glad adoration a song let us raise:
    till all things now living unite in thanksgiving,
    to God in the highest, hosanna and praise.

Gathering Prayer & Assurance of Grace
God, your presence is constant and grounded in love. It is because of this love that we are courageous enough to give voice to our struggles. Receive the burdens and joys from our hearts this morning. We have come to this time of worship in need of something.

In what feels like a race of life, we find that at times we fear our next steps. The road ahead doesn’t look as smooth as we hoped. We worry about stumbling and the stability of the path ahead. Soothe our fears as put one step in front of the other. Calm our minds as we approach the endings of school, work or other commitments. We ask that you assure us of your presence.

There are times where our spiritual, emotional and physical endurance is tested. Where we wonder how we might continue and if we have the strength for the next leg of our journey. May the Spirit offer us strength and encouragement. May the Spirit be our companion and encourage us to accept the limitations placed on us and to accept help when we need it. Free us from the tempting idols of stubbornness and isolation.

Grant us the endurance of Paul who went the distance in your race. Who preached, comforted, fed and fundraised. Help us to seek out your strength when ours falters. May we be assured that that at the end of each day that your arms are outstretched waiting to embrace each one of us.

Friends, take heart. There is nothing that could ever separate you from the love of God. There is no limit to the mileage God will go with you. Thanks be to the enduring grace of God. Amen.

Hymn:                        Like a Rock                                                              MV 92, x2

Like a rock, like a rock, God is under our feet.
Like the starry night sky, God is over our head.
Like the sun on the horizon, God is ever before.
Like the river runs to ocean,
Our home is in God evermore.

RESPONSE

Thanksgiving & Offering
We respond with gratitude through the liturgical act of the offering. We humbly offer our gifts of self and wealth as we seek to minister to the world according to Jesus’ ministry. Let us offer the work of our hands and hearts as we sing while seated VU538 For the Gift of Creation.

Offertory Hymn:     For the Gift of Creation                                        VU 538

For the gift of creation, the gift of your love,
and the gift of the Spirit by which we live,
we thank you and give you the fruit of our hands.
May your grace be proclaimed by the gifts that we give.

Offertory Prayer
Bless us and these gifts O God that we may live according to your will and be beacons of hope and love in the world around us. Amen.

Hymn:                        How Firm a Foundation                                       VU 660

  1. How firm a foundation, you servants of God,
    is laid for your faith in God’s excellent word!
    What more can be said than to you has been said,
    to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
  1. “Fear not, I am with you; O be not dismayed!
    For I am your God and will still give you aid;
    I’ll strengthen and help you, and cause you to stand,
    upheld by my righteous omnipotent hand.
  1. “When through the deep waters I call you to go,
    the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
    for I will be with you, your troubles to bless,
    and sanctify to you your deepest distress.
  1. “When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie,
    my grace, all-sufficient, shall be your supply:
    the flame shall not hurt you; I only design
    your dross to consume, and your gold to refine.
  1. “The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose
    I will not – I will not desert to his foes;
    that soul, though all hell should endeavour to shake,
    I’ll never – no, never – no, never forsake!”

Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer

Loving God, we come before you today with grateful hearts. We thank you for your presence with us through every season of life. For the joys and celebrations, the challenges and sorrows, and for your faithfulness that never ends.

As Paul spoke of finishing the race and keeping the faith, we give thanks for the many years of faith, service, love, and wisdom represented among us today. For the stories we carry, the lessons we have learned, and the ways you have guided us through life’s journey, we thank you.

God of compassion, we pray for those who are struggling today. We remember those who live with illness, pain, loneliness, grief, or uncertainty. Surround them with your comfort and peace. Help them to know that they are never alone, for you walk beside them each day.

We pray for families and friends, especially those who may be separated by distance or circumstance. Strengthen the bonds of love that connect us and help us to cherish one another. We pray for the caregivers, staff, volunteers, and healthcare workers who serve in this home and throughout Renfrew County. Grant them patience, strength, wisdom, and encouragement in their important work.

We pray for our community of Renfrew and for the towns, villages, farms, and rural communities that surround us. Bless our neighbours, our churches, our schools, and all who work to build a caring and compassionate community.

We pray for our country, Canada, and for the leaders of every nation. Guide them in the ways of justice, wisdom, and peace. Where there is conflict, bring understanding. Where there is fear, bring hope. Where there is division, bring reconciliation.

And, gracious God, help each of us to continue the journey of faith. When the road seems long, remind us of your promises. When we grow weary, renew our strength. Keep us trusting in your love and walking in the way of Christ.
Out loud or within the silence of our hearts we name those we wish to pray for today…
These prayers we offer in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray, saying… Our Father…

SENDING

Hymn:                         We Are Pilgrims (The Servant Song)             VU 595 v. 1, 3, 5

  1. We are pilgrims on a journey,
    fellow travellers on the road;
    we are here to help each other
    walk the mile and bear the load.
  1. I will hold the Christ-light for you
    in the night-time of your fear;
    I will hold my hand out to you,
    speak the peace you long to hear.
  1. When we sing to God in heaven,
    we shall find such harmony,
    born of all we’ve known together
    of Christ’s love and agony.

Sending Forth
Go forth trusting that you have the endurance to lead lives of faith and authenticity. Go forth with the knowledge that God goes with you. Go forth with courage, friends. Amen.

Sung Blessing:  Make Me a Channel of Your Peace            VU 684

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your healing power,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
