Call to Worship
Greetings to our brothers and sisters in the faith.
We come to celebrate God’s presence,
and God’s love expressed through Jesus Christ.
We come remembering Christ’s life and ministry,
and the life we are called to live.
We come as a pilgrim people
searching for ways to live out our faith.
We come seeking the strength to carry on our journey.
Let us rejoice in God’s gift to us!
Hymn All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name VU 334
- All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him, crown him, crown him,
crown him Lord of all.
- O seed of Israel’s chosen race
now ransomed from the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace Refrain
- Crown him, you martyrs of your God,
who from his altar call;
praise him whose way of pain you trod, Refrain
- Let every tongue and every tribe,
responsive to the call,
to him all majesty ascribe Refrain
- O that, with all the sacred throng,
we at his feet may fall,
join us in the everlasting song, Refrain
Prayer of Approach
For all the saints who went before us
who have spoken to our hearts
and touched us with your fire,
we praise you, O God.
For all the saints who live beside us
whose weaknesses and strengths
are woven with our own,
we praise you, O God.
For all the saints who live beyond us
who challenge us
to change us
to change the world with them,
we praise you, O God. Amen.

Hymn For All the Saints VU 705
- For all the saints, who from their labours rest,
all who by faith before the world confessed,
your name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
- You were their rock, their fortress, and their might:
you were their captain in the well-fought fight;
you, in the darkness drear, their one true light.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
- O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
yet all are one within your great design.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
- The golden evening brightens in the west;
soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest;
sweet is the calm of paradise the blest.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
- But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day
The saints triumphant rise in bright array:
As God to glory calls them all away.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
- From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost:
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

Hymn Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness VU 375
Refrain: Spirit, Spirit of gentleness,
blow thro’ the wilderness calling and free,
Spirit, Spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness,
Wind, Wind on the sea.
- You moved on the waters, you called to the deep,
then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep;
and over the eons you called to each thing;
wake from your slumbers and rise on your wings. Refrain
- You swept thro’ the desert, you stung with the sand,
and you goaded your people with a law and a land;
and when they were blinded with their idols and lies,
then you spoke thro’ your prophets to open their eyes. Refrain
- You sang in a stable, you cried from a hill,
then you whispered in silence when the whole world was still;
and down in the city you called once again,
when you blew through your people on the rush of the wind. Refrain
- You call from tomorrow, you break ancient schemes,
from the bondage of sorrow the captives dream dreams,
our women see visions, our men clear their eyes,
with bold new decisions your people arise. Refrain

Hymn Be Thou My Vision VU 642
- Be thou my vision, O joy of my heart;
naught be all else to me, save that thou art,
thou my best thought, by day or by night;
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
- Be thou my wisdom, my calm in all strife;
I ever with thee and thou in my life;
thou my loving parent; thy child may I be,
thou in me dwelling and I one with thee.
- Be thou my battle shield, sword for the fight,
be thou my dignity, thou my delight,
thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tower,
raise thou me heavenward, O power of my power.
- Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise;
thou mine inheritance, now and always;
thou and thou only the first in my heart,
great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.
- Great God of heaven, after victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
