Welcome & Telling Our Story

GATHERING

Gathering Chorus

Call to Worship
Friends, we gather in the presence of the One who calls us beloved. On this Pride Sunday, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and the sacred worth of every person. Jesus says, “Love one another as I have loved you.”  We come with our stories, our questions, our joys, and our hopes. We come as LGBTQIA2S+ people, as allies, as family and friends, and as all who seek a community of love and justice. We come as people wonderfully made in the image of God. Come, let us worship the God whose love knows no boundaries, whose welcome never ends, and who calls each of us beloved.

Hymn            Let Us Build a House (All Are Welcome)                                MV 1

  1. Let us build a house where love can dwell
    and all can safely live,
    a place where saints and children tell
    how hearts learn to forgive.
    Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
    Rock of faith and vault of grace;
    Here the love of Christ shall end divisions;
    All are welcome, all are welcome,
    All are welcome in this place.
  1. Let us build a house where prophets speak,
    and words are strong and true,
    where all God’s children dare to seek
    to dream God’s reign anew.
    Here the cross shall stand as witness
    And as symbol of God’s grace;
    Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
    All are welcome, all are welcome,
    All are welcome in this place.
  1. Let us build a house where love is found
    In water, wine and wheat;
    A banquet hall on holy ground,
    Where peace and justice meet.
    Here the love of God, through Jesus,
    Is revealed in time and space;
    As we share in Christ the feast that frees us:
    All are welcome, all are welcome,
    All are welcome in this place.
  1. Let us build a house where hands will reach
    Beyond the wood and stone
    To heal and strengthen, serve and teach,
    And live the Word they’ve known.
    Here the outcast and the stranger
    Bear the image of God’s face;
    Let us bring an end to fear and danger:
    All are welcome, all are welcome,
    All are welcome in this place.
  1. Let us build a house where all are named,
    their songs and visions heard
    and loved and treasured, taught and claimed
    as words within the Word.
    Built of tears and cries of laughter,
    Prayers of faith and songs of grace;
    Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:
    All are welcome, all are welcome,
    All are welcome in this place.

Gathering Prayer & Assurance of Grace
God of boundless love, you create each of us with beauty and purpose. You call us friends and invite us into a community shaped by compassion, justice, and joy. On this Pride Sunday, we give thanks for the diversity of your creation and for all who have courageously shared their gifts, stories, and lives with the world. Where people have experienced rejection, bring healing. Where fear has silenced voices, bring courage. Where love has been denied, help us embody the love of Christ.  Open our hearts to your Spirit today. Teach us again what it means to love one another as Jesus has loved us, that our lives and our congregation may reflect your inclusive grace.  Friends, may you hear these words of unconditional promise: Jesus says, “I have called you friends.” Before we ever sought God, God sought us. Before we ever understood love, God loved us. Before we ever found our place, God claimed us as beloved. In Jesus Christ, we are welcomed, forgiven, and renewed. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Time for the Young & Young at Heart

Hymn:                        My Love Colours Outside the Lines                             MV 138

  1. My love colours outside the lines,
    exploring paths that few could ever find;
    and takes me into places
    where I’ve never been before,
    and opens doors to worlds outside the lines.
  1. My Lord colours outside the lines,
    turns wounds into blessings, water into wine;
    and takes me to places
    where I’ve never been before
    and opens doors to worlds outside the lines.

Refrain:         We’ll never walk on water
                        if we’re not prepared to drown,
                        body and soul need a soaking
                        from time to time.
                        And we’ll never move the gravestones
                        if we’re not prepared to die,
                        and realize there are worlds outside the lines.

3. My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries
where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.                    Refrain

4. My soul longs to colour outside the lines,
tear back the curtains, sun, come in and shine;
I want to walk beyond the boundaries
where I’ve never been before,
throw open doors to worlds outside the lines.

RESPONSE

Thanksgiving & Offering
Jesus calls us to love not only with words, but with our lives. Through our gifts, we participate in ministries of welcome, justice, compassion, and hope. As we celebrate God’s love made visible in the diversity of creation, let us offer our gifts with gratitude, trusting that God can use them to build communities where all people know they are beloved.

Offertory Song:                  For the Gift of Creation                                        VU 538

For the gift of creation, the gift of your love,
and the gift of the Spirit by which we live,
we thank you and give you the fruit of our hands.
May your grace be proclaimed by the gifts that we give.

Offertory Prayer
God of generosity, receive these gifts and receive our lives. Use what we offer to share your love, extend your welcome, and strengthen your work of justice and compassion in the world. Amen.

Hymn                         There Is Room for All                               MV 62 (sung twice)

There is room for all
in the shadow of God’s wing;
there is room for all, sheltered in God’s love.
And I rejoice and sing,
“My refuge and my rock, in whom I trust.”
There is room for all, there is room for all!

Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer
God of love, you call us friends and invite us to abide in your love. On this Pride Sunday, we give thanks for the beautiful diversity woven throughout your creation. We celebrate the gifts, wisdom, courage, and faithfulness of LGBTQIA2S+ people, and we rejoice in communities where people are welcomed, valued, and loved for who they are.  Loving God, we remember before you all who have experienced rejection, exclusion, bullying, discrimination, or violence because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Surround them with your healing presence. Restore hope where there has been hurt, and bring comfort where there has been pain.   God of justice, strengthen your Church to reflect the radical welcome of Jesus. Where we have failed to love as Christ loves, forgive us. Where barriers still divide your people, give us courage to dismantle them. Help us become communities where all may flourish and where every person is recognized as your beloved child.   God of compassion, we pray for those who carry burdens this day: those facing illness, grief, loneliness, uncertainty, or fear. We pray for those struggling with mental health challenges, for caregivers, for families in transition, and for all who long for encouragement and support. May they know your presence and peace.  God of peace, we pray for our communities, our nation, and our world. Guide leaders in the ways of justice and wisdom. Bring reconciliation where there is division, safety where there is danger, and hope where despair has taken root. Help us to be agents of your love in all the places we live and serve.  God of joy, help us bear the fruit of lives rooted in Christ. May our words, actions, and relationships reflect the commandment Jesus gave us: to love one another as he has loved us.  Hear these prayers and the silent prayers of our hearts, trusting in your grace and mercy. And now, with the confidence of your beloved children, we pray together the words that Jesus taught us by saying: Our Father…

                             standing side by side, draw the circle wide.

    ‘round whom all creation turns;
    nothing lost, but held forever,
    in God’s gracious arms.                Refrain

Sung Blessing                     Make Me a Channel of Your Peace                  VU 684

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your healing power,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you:
